A fab chance to spend the morning beachcombing East Lane beach, Bawdsey on your very own treasure hunt. In the afternoon we will explore your beachcombed treasures in greater detail. Kate will provide some top beachcombing tips (the best beaches for seaglass, fossils etc) and there will be a chance to see her private beachcombing collection. The programme for the day is below. No experience or prior knowledge required.
This workshop is part of the Suffolk Walking Festival Fringe and booking is essential through them here. Cost £20 per person.
9:30 arrival for 10:00 START at Bawdsey Village Hall: WELCOME tea and fresh coffee
INTRODUCTION: A brief intro to the day and what we will be doing
BEACHCOMBING: An opportunity for you to spend up to two hours finding your own treasures. If the weather is good we will spend time on the beach examining our finds. If the weather is poor we will take them back to the village hall to examine in more detail.
LUNCH: Please bring a packed lunch
EXPLORING BEACHCOMBING FINDS: We will spend the afternoon looking at and arranging your finds: learning what they can tell us and how they are connected to each other. We will also study Suffolk’s unique shingle beaches and our effect on them and our seas. And hopefully squeeze in one more beachcomb!
Please be aware:
> The course and beachcomb will go ahead regardless of the weather
> There is a short steep slope to access the beach. This takes less than a minute and someone who used a stick for walking managed it okay. If you have very limited mobility a beachcomb on Felixstowe beach might be more suitable as there are plenty of places to sit down and we walk hardly any distance at all. Details of those walks are available on my events page.
