BEACHCOMBING ON BAWDSEY BEACH - A WINTER WALK

  • Bawdsey Quay Ferry Road, Bawdsey, Woodbridge IP12 3AX (map)

Bawdsey beach is a fantastic location for beachcombing. It's a cracking example of our Suffolk shingle and its plants, full of shells, sea glass and sharks’ teeth!

Meeting point:  Bawdsey Quay car park. I will be obvious in a bright yellow hi viz logo'd jacket.

Please join me ten minutes before the beachcomb begins so we can start promptly. Sorry, but if you are late you won't be able to join us.

Do I need to book? No.

How much does it cost? £5 for each person.

What age is this suitable for? All ages. Beachcombing is suitable for children and adults alike.  Hunting for treasure on our beaches is addictive whatever your age, so all are welcome. Children must be supervised at all times by their accompanying adults.

What should I wear? Wrap up warm! We won’t be walking very fast and it will be windy and cold, so wrap up with lots of layers for warmth and against the wind. Please wear shoes suitable for walking on shingle.

How long will it last?  Two hours.

What if it's horrible weather? The weather can be very changeable but the beachcomb will go ahead unless it's torrential rain or high winds make the beach dangerous.

Is there parking? There is very limited parking on Bawdsey Quay itself. Please use the free council car park nearby (also on Ferry Road) which is a 2 minute walk from the quay. Please respect local residents and park considerately. Thank you.

Can I bring my dog? Well behaved dogs kept on a short lead throughout the walk are welcome.

I can’t make this date, will there be others? Yes, there are Beach Bonkers beachcombing events throughout the year.

This beachcomb is possible thanks to a grant from the Suffolk Secrets AONB Fund.
